Nancy Wilson Barbata, founder and chief doll costumer of , grew up in a family of artists. She has studied watercolor painting, pottery, glass blowing, needlework, graphic design, and photography. As a result of being raised in a family of artists, Nancy developed an instinctive appreciation for color, order, precision, and quality in her work, her home, her life.

It was Nancy's maternal grandmother who sewed finely detailed doll clothes. She shared her love for dolls with Nancy and her little sister and joined their mother in teaching them to sew. As the dream to startevolved, Nancy's mother recalled the dresses that had been created when she was a little girl. Details such as dainty smocking, embroidery, and doll-sized pockets intrigued Nancy. The dresses that survived are prized possessions and sources of inspiration.

Holiday Elegance by Doll Fancier

Sasha feels just like Cinderella going to the ball, only Sasha is going to The Nutcracker Ballet! She has been looking forward to this night for what seems like years to her! The night has finally arrived and she is all set to go, looking radiant in her brand-new Doll Fancier creation! The special slip, the beautiful dress, the matching embroidered velvet shoes, the sweet cape with pink lining, the matching little purse (of course with a tiny silk hanky inside)...all are sure to guarantee a magical evening!

Sasha wants to hold the tickets to the Ballet! When they arrive at the theatre, a handsome young man hands Sasha a lovely Playbill with the programme inside. From the moment the curtain rises, Sasha is so transfixed by the Nutcracker Prince and Clara, the little Polchinelles, the Russian Dance, Dance of the Snowflakes, and, especially, the Sugar Plum Fairy ... that she doesn't notice something.

When the ballet ends and the applause dies down and the lights come up, she looks down and there in her lap is The Nutcracker! Beautifully made of wood by artists in the Erzgebirge region of Germany, her Nutcracker looks just like the one she has just watched so intently. Maybe tonight when she sleeps, her Nutcracker will turn into a handsome Prince.....sigh!
