I see a little girl, 8 or 9 years old, proudly carrying her precious Bébé, Bleuette, as she strolls through the park with her nanny or perhaps Grandmère. Bleuette is dressed to perfection, her clothes made of the finest silks and laces Paris has to offer. Perhaps Bleuette's little Maman is wearing a dress to match!
I remember Paris as I lift beautiful dress after beautiful dress after gorgeous bonnet from the special box that has just arrived from Sylvie Bravot in France. In my mind's eye I am sitting at an outdoor café, sipping my café au lait and nibbling at a buttery Madeleine, watching people stroll by on a sunny afternoon.
A dear friend of mine was born in America in 1909. When she was a tiny girl of 6 or 7, her mother made Emma and her beloved Flora Dora doll Harriet wardrobes to match. Emma's dresses did not survive, but Harriet and her wardrobe live happily with Emma's granddaughter.
It is all these swirling thoughts and feelings that come to me as I lay each creation made from antique and vintage silks and laces in acid-free tissue to preserve it for the generations to come. Each hat is also wrapped in acid-free tissue paper and comes in its own special hatbox.
